Clemson is a city in South Carolina, a state of the United States of America. The population was 11,939 at the 2000 census and center of an urban cluster with a total population of 42,199. This urban cluster is included as part of the larger Greenville-Spartanburg Metropolitan Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.2 km (7.8 mi). 19.1 km (7.4 mi) of it is land and 1.1 km (0.4 mi) of it (5.39%) is water.

The city is hilly and in the Piedmont Section of the state of South Carolina, all though the closer you get to Lake Hartwell, the flater the land is.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 11,939 people, 5,061 households, and 2,196 families residing in the city. The population density was 625.5/km (1,620.6/mi). There were 5,679 housing units at an average density of 297.5/km (770.8/mi). The racial makeup of the city was 80.98% White, 11.38% African American, 0.11% Native American, 5.73% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.82% of the population.
